Wessels Joins Toffees

Everton have signed German goalkeeper Stefan Wessels on a free transfer.

The experienced 28-year-old joins the Goodison Park club from Bundesliga outfit FC Cologne, and will provide competition for current number one Tim Howard and youngsters Iain Turner and John Ruddy.

Wessels has represented Germany at numerous levels - including under-21 - and helped former club Bayern Munich lift the Champions League trophy back in 2001 where he was Oliver Kahn's understudy.

He told evertonfc.com: "I am excited to be here in England. It is the first time I have played for a club outside of Germany but the English Premier League is a very exciting league and I am looking forward to my time here at Everton."

Wessels has signed an initial one year deal at the Merseyside club.
