Coppell firm on Hahnemann Deal

by Danny Wright

Reading manager Steve Coppell has refused to bow to pressure from keeper Marucs Hahnemann over a new contract.

Hahnemann vented his frustrations earlier in the week as it was revealed his current deal - which expires in the summer - has yet to be renewed.

Coppell told Sky Sports News: "You need to know his personality - he needed to get it off his chest and thump his chest a little bit,"

"If he was in his mid-twenties then the chances are he would be on a long-term contract but he is not, he is in his mid-thirties. "

The American stopper has been a fine representative for Reading since signing for the Berkshire club in 2002, helping them to the Championship title in 2006 and playing an integral part in the side that finished eighth in their first ever Premiership season.

This however hasn't detterred Coppell on his stance, and he added:

"We are not going to commit without knowing exactly where we are going to be. Nothing will be done until that situation is resolved."
